Dear Parents,
I would like to address the issue of early dismissals days. This year, as in previous years, early dismissal days conclude with a 1:00 release. They have always been scheduled for the last Wednesday of each month to provide consistency.
The purpose of the early dismissal is to allow teachers to meet for faculty meetings and in-services. Strategic planning for long range goals for the Basilica School is addressed. Departmental meetings are held, teacher training in new technology is implemented, the yearbook gets put together and teachers conclude quarter grades and work on report cards. This time for faculty and staff is invaluable for the smooth operation of the school.
The last early dismissal happened to fall on a Wednesday following a Monday that was a Professional Day. This made it hard on all our working parents. I am sorry for the strain it put on our families.
Our calendar is aligned with Monroe County Public Schools very closely. In MCPS, they have two types of releases. One is called District Release. All schools, including The Basilica School, follow the same District Release. The other early releases are called school release days and differ by schools and levels. We are changing our school early release dates to coincide with Monroe County Elementary Schools to avoid any confusion. Please disregard the early release dates on your current calendar and follow the schedule below:
