THANK YOU PARENTS!
Thank you parents for your tremendous cooperation in getting the school year off to a smooth start. The front parking lot is for drive by and drop off ONLY. If you need to park in the morning, please park in the back parking lot. This ensures the safety of our students.
RAINY DAY PICK UP
If it rains, all pick up is at the front of the school. We will try to do a call out if the rain begins in advance of dismissal time.
TUITION, CURRICULUM FEES, AND AFTER CARE FEES
Please stop by and see Ms. Kelly to pay all necessary fees. After Care Fees are due each Friday.
ART VOLUNTEER
We need at least one parent who would like to volunteer in the Art room on Thursdays from 1:45 to 2:30. If you are interested, let Ms. Cindy know. It would be assisting Ms. Nancy with the Kindergarten or 1st Grade.
WHAT IS VIRTUS? How does it relate to the Basilica School and volunteering?
The Archdiocese of Miami, along with the 194 dioceses of the United States Catholic Conference, is committed to providing safe environments for those who need protection the most, our children. Virtus is the program that the Archdiocese of Miami uses to train everyone in our school on how to keep our children safe. For an explanation of the program go to: www.miamiarchschools.org and click on “Protecting God’s Children.”
All volunteers at The Basilica School must fulfill the following safe environment requirements before becoming involved with our children:
- Pass a national criminal background screening. (Fingerprinting will be done in October)
- Participate in the “Virtus” training program (September 13 or September 20 – 6 p.m.)
- Complete a Volunteer Application and sign a Code of Conduct sheet. (available in the office)
There will be two opportunities to take the Virtus Class in September. Thursday, September 13, and Thursday, September 20. Classes begin at 6:00 p.m. Classes will be held in either the library or the Spiritual Renewal Center (depending on the size of the class).
Pre-registration is done online at: www.virtusonline.org
School Website and Teacher Web
Please check out our updated website at www.basilicaschoolkeywest.com.
Each teacher has a teacher website attached to the school website. The school website contains important school information and should be checked often. The teacher website should be checked every day because teachers put their homework, assignments, and class information online.
If you do not have access to a computer online at home, the front office has one set up for your use. Please feel free to stop by and use it to collect information.
PTSA Meeting and Homeroom Representative Meeting
Each class has a homeroom representative. The homeroom reps will be the contact person for the class. They will meet each month and get information out to the parents in their classroom. If you have ideas for improvement or areas of concern, please bring it to their attention. They will communicate a lot of information via email. Please make sure the homeroom teacher has your correct email and phone number.
First rep meeting – Thursday – September 6th at 5:30 in the computer room.
The homeroom reps are:
Pre K 3 Laura Kasper
Pre K 4 Maria Slavik

PTSA MEETING – WEDNESDAY – SEPTEMBER 12, 5:30, CAFETERIA
Please make every effort to attend the first PTSA meeting of the year. We need everyone on board! There are lots of exciting changes that have gone on over the summer. New teachers, iPads, ebooks, landscaping, library program and over 35 new students. Our enrollment is about 209!
The “good news” has spread and is attracting many. Involved parents are one of the most important components of successful students and a successful school.
Closing from the Principal:
Dear Parents and Families,
This year begins the most amazing year for us. We begin anew as the Basilica School. We are inspired by the leadership and example set for us by our Rector, Father John Baker, and the overwhelming generosity of our Parish Manager, Mr. Zachary Bentley. They are simply the right people in the right place at the right time. They both have a vision for our future, love for our children and believe that all things are possible with God. They believe that if we created a school of such excellence people would be waiting in line to enroll their children. That vision has arrived.
As we begin to work together this year to be “Sowers of God’s Peace” let us remember that this year is for Him, and always, for HIM. May God use us to create peace in our hearts, our homes, our community, ourschool.
I look forward to serving you for another year as do all our teachers and staff.
Grace,
Beth Harris
